Saturday June 3
2:30 am    Arrive Bangkok. Overnight at the Ebina House Hotel.

 

Morning:    
Visit the Wat Phra Keow (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) and the Grand Palace.


Sunday June 4 
Morning:  Depart for Bang Pa In Palace  and Wat Chai Mongkol, Ayudhaya.

 

 

Afternoon: Visit Ayudhaya Historical Park Travel to Kamphangsaen (KPS) campus, Nakon Pathom. Travel to Kamphangsaen, 100 km from Bangkok in Nakon Pathom Province, site of KU's 2nd campus.  Dinner Hosted by Dr. Seksom Attamangkune, Department of Animal Science.

Monday June 5 
Morning:  Courtesy call on Vice President of the KPS Campus, Dr. Vichai Korpraditskul.  Orientation and overview of the study tour program.  Campus tour. 


Afternoon:  Visit the National Agricultural Extension and Training Center, KU. Overview of the role of the center in extension and training.  Dinner Hosted by KPS campus administration.


Tuesday June 6
Morning Visit the faculty of Agriculture, KPS campus, and meet the deputy dean, Dr. Yongyud O-sod-sapa Overview of plant and livestock production in Thailand
Afternoon:  Visit agricultural areas outside the campus where delta areas suitable for rice paddy field have been switched to other agricultural activities such as vegetable gardens, fruit orchards and prawn farms. Visit a rice mill near Kamphaengsan. Dinner: Hosted by Faculty of Agriculture.


Wednesday June 7  
Study Tour in Nakon Pathom area 
Morning:  Visit floating market, Damnoen Saduak, Rachaburi.  Visit low-land fruit orchards and vegetable gardens. 


Afternoon: Visit Nong Pho Animal Hospital Field trip to villages with small-scale family-operated dairies. Dinner Hosted by Dr. Tanu Pinyopumin, Associate Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

 

Thursday June 8  Study Tour in Rachaburi, Samutr-sakon, Nakon Pathom Morning Visit Supa Orchid; the largest commercial tissue culture operation in Thailand, producing different kinds of orchid plantlets. Nakon Chai-see. 

 

Afternoon: Visit Thai Human Imagery Museum Visit Fresh Meat Co., Ltd. (swine slaughterhouse and meat-packing operation) Dinner All-night market, Pra-pathom Jae Dee (the large Budhist Pagoda, a symbolic place of Nakon Pathom).

 

Friday June 9  Travel to the Eastern part of Thailand 
Morning:  Visit marine aquarium, Burapa University, Chonburi.

 

Afternoon: Free time at Bang-san Beach-- sun bathing, swimming, sipping cool drink and relaxing on a white sand beach of the Thai gulf. Check in to the housing facility at Sriracha campus, KU. Dinner Hosted by Sriracha campus.
Saturday June 10  Study tour in Sriracha and travel to the central plateau of Thailand.  Morning: Visit Sriracha Tiger Garden

 

and Khao-Keaw Open Zoo.  
Afternoon:  Travel to KU Tab Kwang Swine Research Station, located in Saraburi Province.   Stay in the farm's housing facilities.

 

Sunday June 11  
Afternoon: Overview of swine industry of Thailand and the role of KU on swine research by Dr. Srisuwan Chomcha, Director, Tab Kwang Swine Research Station. Hike to visit cave of Bhodhisatava Dinner Hosted by KU Tab Kwang Research Station, pig roast party with karaoke.

 

Monday June 12 Study Tour  of the central plateau agriculture.  Morning:  Visit Chokchai farm (large family-owned operation for  dairy--breeding, milking and  milk processing--, thoroughbred  race horses and agro-tourism) 

 

Afternoon: Visit large family-owned layer operation
Tuesday June 13 
Morning:  Visit Star Feed Co., a large feed mill owned by Charoen Phokpand (CP) Group. Visit CP Group - Meiji Co. (milk products processing plant). 

 

Afternoon:  Visit Bangkok Produce Co.(poultry processing plant owned by CP Group). Observe special processing of chicken meat for export market. 
Wednesday June 14   
Morning:  Visit Suwan Farm, the National Corn and Sorghum Research Center.  Overview of corn and sorghum research in Thailand.  Lunch Hosted by Suwan Farm.

 

Afternoon: Visit Kao Yai National Park (Wildlife and national park management) Dinner hosted by Dr. Sombat Chinawong, Associate Dean, KU Faculty of Agriculture

 

Thursday June 15 
Morning:  Check out with luggage. Visit CP Research Station (private operation for corn breeding program and seed production).  Presentations by Professor Dr. Rachain Thiraporn.  Lunch hosted by CP.

 

Afternoon:  Visit Pa-sak Dam. The project, initiated by King Bhumipol, has a great impact on Thai agriculture and flooding problems of the central regions. 
Friday June 16   Travel North to Nakon Sawan 
Morning: Visit Department of Fisheries Station 

 

Afternoon: Visit combined hen-layer; swine and fish production farm in Nakhon Sawan. Leave Nakhon Sawan for Phitsanulok. Stay in La Paloma Hotel. Dinner Hosted by Naresuan University.

 

 

Saturday June 17   Check out with luggage and drive north to Phrae. 
Morning:  Drive to Phrae. Visit para-wood processing factory

 

Afternoon: Visit famous traditional teak house in Phrae. Visit nearby "Grand Canyon of Thailand." Stay one night at Phrae Royal Forestry Department Guesthouse Dinner. Dinner hosted by Forestry Station Director, Sanit Boonpitak. 

 

Sunday June 18  Drive North to Chiangrai.  Visit places of interest along the way.
Stay at Royal Forest Department Guesthouse at Pongsalee Watershed Development Office near Chiangrai. Dinner Hosted by Forestry Station Director. 

 

Monday June 19 Study Tour in Chiangrai.
Morning:  Visit Doi Tung Developmental Project. The project includes reforestation, plantation of Arabica coffee and macadamia, resort, arboretum and jobs for better living of villagers. 

 

Afternoon: Visit Mae Sai border crossing into Burma and the famous Golden Triangle.  Ride boat on Mae Khong River to Laos and return. Dinner hosted by regional forestry officer.  Overnight in Chiangrai

 

Tuesday June 20  
Morning:  Visit Boonrawd Farm in Chiangrai; barley field, mushroom, fruit processing. 

 

Afternoon:  Travel to Chiangmai.  Visit Khun Chae National Park.  Lunch and tour Huay Hong Krai King's Development Project.  Arrive at regional office of Land Development Department (LDD) in Chiangmai. Stay in LDD guest facilities. Visit Night Bazaar for extensive shopping experience.

 

Wednesday June 21  
Morning:  Mini Workshop at LDD Regional Office Presentation on Rehabilitation of Degraded Land: An Experience from the State of Tennessee by Dr. Robert Orr.  Presentation on Precision Agriculture and Limited Tillage Farming by Dr. Mike Mullen.  

 

Afternoon: Visit Baan Tawai and San-kamphang for northern style carved wood handicrafts, silk, jewelry. Dinner Northern style Khan Toke Dinner.

Thursday June 22 Check out with luggage and move south to Phitsanulok.  
Morning:  Depart for Thai Elephant Center, Lampang (elephant training for timber work in the jungle, conservation, and center for elephant study). 

Afternoon:  Travel to Phitsanulok Stay one night at Rajapat Institute hostel.
Friday June 23  Drive to Bangkok. 

 

 

Students handed off for homestays and a variety of cultural experiences. 

 

 

Saturday June 24 and Sunday June 25:  Home stays

 

Monday June 26 
Morning: Host families sends the students back to KU.  Courtesy call to the President of Kasetsart University, Dr. Thira Sutabutra.  Lunch Hosted by Dr. Thira and KU administration.

 

 

Afternoon:  Visit Talaad Thai, the largest wholesale market for fresh fruits and vegetables in Thailand. Overview of fresh fruit and vegetable wholesale marketing.  Observe the activities of the market.  Return to KU for overview presentation by Faculty of Forestry. Dinner hosted by faculty of Forestry. Overnight at Ebina House
Tuesday June 27 
Morning:  Visit KU Faculty of Fisheries and Faculty of Agro-Industry 
Afternoon:  Visit Carlsberg Brewery Dinner.  Hosted by Suwan Institute, Director Dr. Chanvit Vajrabukka. Overnight at Ebina House.

 

Wednesday June 28  Morning: Visit the Royal Chitralada Project (A large group of demonstration agricultural project located on the grounds of Chitralada Palace). 

 

Afternoon: UT Students rehearse cultural performance. Wrap-up Meeting.  
Dinner:  Farewell and Thank-You Party with cultural performance by UT and KU students 

 

Thursday June 29 
Morning:  Attend ceremony for KU freshman class paying respect to KU professors
Afternoon:  Free time
Dinner hosted by Dr. Napavarn Noparatnaraporn, Director, Kasetsart University Research & Development Institute

 

Friday June 30 

3:50 am  Leave Ebina House for Bangkok International Airport 
6:10 am  Depart Bangkok for Knoxville NW 02
7:40 pm  Arrive in Knoxville
