April 20, Saturday 3:45 am
Group arrives on United 529 from Chicago. Taken to Campus Days Inn. 
Morning:  walking tour of UT Campus and area around hotel
Afternoon:  Driving tour of Knoxville and Dogwood Trail. 

 

 

Evening:  Welcome party at home of Dr. Kelly Robbins, Professor and Head, Department of Animal Science  

April 21, Sunday
Day at lake cabin of Dr. Frank Leuthold and boating on Lake Norris.

 

April 22, Monday
Morning:  Introductory meeting and orientation at the Institute of Agriculture. Courtesy meeting with the Provost of the University of Tennessee.  Lunch at the University Club hosted by the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

 

Afternoon:  Knox County Commission proclaims Kasetsart University Day. 
Dinner:  Calhoun's on the River hosted by Dr. Britt. 

 

April 23, Tuesday
Morning: Animal Science research conducted at the Joe Johnson Research Building.
Afternoon:  An introduction to GPS and precision agriculture.

 

April 24, Wednesday
Morning: College of Human Ecology, Department of Consumer and Industry Services Management with Dr. Nancy Fair, Department Head, and Dr. Carl Pfaffenberg.
Afternoon:  KU students hang out with UT students in class and on campus.

 

April 25, Thursday
Field trip to Big South Fork National Riverine and Recreation Area with Dr. Mark Fly. 

 

April 26, Friday
Morning:  Visit Stephanie Tarwater's beekeeping operation.
 

Afternoon:  Sequoyah Birthplace Museum.
Evening:  Farewell party for Dr.  Songkram and Mr. Somsak at the home of Dr. Bob and Donna Orr.
April 27, Saturday
Field trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, featuring a botanical nature hike with Adjarn Pum.

 

April 28, Sunday
Appalachian Museum and dinner with Dr. Mark and Kathleen Fly in Norris, TN.

 

April 29, Monday
Morning:  Check out of hotel and travel to Monterey Mushroom Company.
Afternoon:  Tour Sweetwater Valley Farm Cheese Company [and Dairy].  Take "ice cream" tour of Mayfield's Dairy in Athens, TN.  Travel to Chattanooga. 

 

April 30, Tuesday in Chattanooga.
Morning: NK Garden Seed Company
Afternoon: Tennessee Aquarium.

 

May 1, Wednesday
Morning: Tour Tennessee Valley Authority pumped storage Raccoon Mountain power plant.  Drive to Lynchburg.
Afternoon:  Tour Jack Daniel's distillery and shop for Jack Daniel's memorabilia in historic Lynchburg.  Drive to Shelbyville.

 

May 2, Thursday
Morning:  Tennessee Walking Horse farm.
Afternoon:  Tour Lewisburg Dairy Experiment Station. 
 

 

Evening:  Dinner hosted by the Bedford County 4-H Club, followed by a visit to the "Celebration" for a spotted pony show.
May 3, Friday
Morning:  Depart  Shelbyville for Nashville.  First stop was a tour of Saturn Corporation's automobile assembly plant near Spring Hill. 

Afternoon:  Visit the Tennessee Department of Agriculture--the agricultural museum, followed by an overview of the Regulatory Service Division and a tour of Kord Laboratories.

Evening:  Dinner hosted by Susie Genualdi's family.
May 4,  Saturday
Morning:  Visit the Hermitage, the historic home of former U.S. president Andrew Jackson.
Afternoon:  Tour the Opryland Hotel and shop at Opryland Mills.

 

May 5, Sunday
Morning:  Adventures at the laundramat.
Afternoon:  Drive to Jackson Tennessee and dinner at the home of Dr. Don Tyler.
Check in at Ames Plantation.

 

May 6,  Monday
Travel to Memphis for sight-seeing.  Botanical Gardens.  Cruise the Mississippi River on the Island Queen paddle-wheeler.  Blues on Beale Street.
Return to Ames Plantation.

 

May 7, Tuesday
Introduction to Ames Plantation.  Archeological restorations.  Quail and hunting dogs. 

 

May 8, Wednesday
Morning:  Check out of Ames Plantation and drive to West Tennessee Experiment Station.  Tour of station with Dr. Don [Tyler], featuring conservation tillage and vegetable production.
Afternoon:  Travel to Milan Experiment Station  with Dr. Don for a heavy dose of precision agriculture.  Drive to Paris for the evening. 
 

 

Evening:  Barbecue at the Gullish Cattle Farm with the meal sponsored by the Henry County Young Farmers and Ranchers.
May 9, Thursday (program arranged by Kaset Amphur, Khun Ken Goddard)
Morning:  Paris Landing State Park presentation on birds of prey and tour of golf course. 
Afternoon:  Land Between the Lakes--visit the "Old Home Place" and conservation area for Bison and Elk.  Visit the astronomy lab and the LBL museum. 
Evening:  Dinner at the Presbyterian Church and visit with 4-H Honor Club
May 10, Friday
Morning:  Tour Clifty Farm Company, the makers of fine country cured hams.  Tour Tosh Farms' contract swine operation.  Lunch sponsored by Tosh Farms. .
 
And, once again, it was Kasetsart University Day in Tennessee.  Thank you, Paris and Ken Goddard
Afternoon:  Visit Replogle Enterprises--large state-of-the-art sawmill.  Tour Digg's farm conservation tillage, diversified cropping program and freshwater shrimp production.
May 11 and 12, Saturday and Sunday
Return to Knoxville.  Join with host families.
May 13, Monday
Fish Day!!   Fishery techniques--a day in the labs and in the field electro-fishing.

 

May 14, Tuesday
Morning:  Visits to Processed Foods Corp. and Tom's, food processing companies in Knoxville.
Afternoon:  Tour of Trial Gardens on the Ag Campus.

 

 
May 15, Wednesday
Group split in two--one group visiting Mayo's Nursery, the American Museum of Science and Energy and a pick-your-own strawberry farm and the other group doing on-campus activities including a tour of the sensory perception laboratory in the Department of Food Science and Technology.

 

May 16, Thursday
Shopping day at Pigeon Forge!
That evening, Aom, Kor, Pab, Yam, Bill and Bright went to a Tennessee Smokies baseball game with host families.

 

May 17, Friday
Morning:  Wrap-up meeting.
Lunch at the Trial Gardens.
Performance final rehearsals at home of Dr. Bob.
 

Evening:  Official farewell party for KU students.  Dinner and KU student cultural performance.

There were classical dances, martial arts, presentation of certificates and "family" photos.

May 18, Saturday
Morning:  Trip to the Knoxville Zoo, courtesy of Dr. Frank Leuthold [aka County Commissioner and member of the Board of Directors of the zoo].

May 19, Sunday
Afternoon:  Cookout and hay ride at home of Dr. Alan Mathew.
May 20, Monday
11:48 am departure for Thailand on UA 7629.
