Our Mission
Today's world dictates the inclusion of global issues and perspectives
to provide adequate understanding and analyses of events impacting
the futures of the University of Tennessee's Institute of Agriculture's
clientele--our students, the farmers, the agribusinesses and the people of Tennessee. International programs are intended
to foster development both at home and abroad, and to provide faculty
and students with an opportunity to incorporate a global perspective
into their teaching, research and service to the State of Tennessee.
International programs also contribute to an expanded constituency
for the University of Tennessee. Thus, international programs
are conducted to enrich the experience of the Institute of Agriculture's
faculty, enhancing their ability to carry out the mission of this
Land-Grant University, and of the students, positioning them to
be active participants in our inter-connected world.
The International Programs office in the
University of Tennessee's Institute of
Agriculture is a service unit administratively
under the Vice President for Agriculture.
The office serves all of the
divisions and departments of the Institute of Agriculture and
cooperates with other divisions and departments of The University of
Tennessee. The office
is designed to acquire and implement international activities and
development projects for the primary purpose of conducting faculty
and student development.
The International Programs office activities include: acquisition, review and administration
of international agreements and contracts; support or management
of international exchange agreements; facilitation of faculty development
through focused, project-oriented international involvement,
student study abroad programs; on-campus seminars and workshops;
direction of short-term participant training; hosting international
visitors; and serving as an information clearing house on international
affairs.
