From November 3 through 17, 2001, IPANR conducted a tailored study tour on ecotourism development for areas surrounding national parks for twelve Bulgarians representing the Rila and Central Balkan National Parks' Directorates, representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Water, the Tourism Department of the Ministry of Economics and entrepreneurs. Presented in English with interpretation into Bulgarian, the program was primarily based in Knoxville with extensive field trips in the East Tennessee region surrounding the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Additional travel included Nashville, Tennessee for meetings with officials of the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development and the Tennessee Department of Agriculture.

Association in Englewood, Tennessee. Overhill is
a multi-county non-profit organization that promotes ecotourism.
Program participants discussed fund-raising mechanisms and community
organization for tourism development with the Overhill staff. Travel
to Fall Creek Falls State Park. Evening: Meet with community leaders to discuss how towns surrounding have or have not been able to capitalize upon the park's success.
